John E. Fisher, 85, of 710 Fairview Avenue , Galion, died Friday, January 30, 2004 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Center, Galion after an extended illness.

Born May 15, 1918 in Marion, he was the son of the late John A. Fisher and Frances S. (Hall) Fisher. His wife Helen Ruth (McManes) Fisher, whom he married March 31, 1940 survives.

He graduated from Iberia High School in 1936 and served in U.S. Army in during World War II in the Phillipines. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galion, where he served as a deacon. His hobbies included golf and hunting.

He retired from Cooper Bessemer Industries in Mt. Vernon where he was a corporate executive as senior buyer in the purchasing department. Formerly he worked as a corporate executive in purchasing at North Electric Co. in Galion. He was also employed by Standard Oil Co. in Galion.

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and C. William Epperson, of Perrysburg; a son, J. Michael "Mike" Fisher, of Galion; four grandchildren, Joseph William Epperson and Susan Lynn Epperson-Ferritto, of Calif., Beth Fisher Richardson and Katharine Fisher Compton, of Columbus; five great-grandchildren, Michael William Epperson, of Calif. and Samantha, Donald, Sydney and Daniel Compton, of Columbus and a sister Pauline Longacre, of Texas.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Sautter.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m Monday, February 2, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, with Rev. Gary L. Proietti officiating. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Galion Area Veterans Organizations.
