Delnore L. "Goldy" Goldsmith, 90, of 19809 Ponderosa Circle, Sun City, Ariz., died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at home.
Born May 20, 1913 in Galion, he was the son of the late Chester Goldsmith and Bertha (Wenninger) Goldsmith.
He was a graduate of Galion High School and attended University of Kentucky.
He played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Team. He was a 32nd Degree member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and belonged to the El Zaribah Shrine Temple in Phoenix. He was an outstanding golfer and enjoyed played frequently. After his retirement he first moved from Galion to Florida and then in 1984 to Arizona where he was a member of American Lutheran Church in Sun City.
One of his real passions and loves is in his younger years was when he was a fireman on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He worked at the former Perfection-Cobey Company in Galion and later had his own business as a partner in Ohio Sealed Storage. He then returned to Perfection-Cobey until he retired where he was Territorial Sales Manager of the Southeastern United States.
Surviving are his a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin "Sonny" and Kay Goldsmith, of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Byrdell Goldsmith, of Galion; two sisters, Lucille Schoen and Mary Grant, of Galion; a sister-in-law, Mary Goldsmith, of Galion; a step grandson, Clayton Harrison, of Clearwater, Fla., a step granddaughter, Susan Bean, of Oldsmar, Fla. and many nieces and nephews including, Sandy and Roger Keller, Steve and Scott Goldsmith, Lynne Goldsmith, Jeff Goldsmith, Chris Lyon, Janice Fox and Byrdell "Bud" Goldsmith, Jr.
On January 3, 1997 he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Naomi M. (Dotts) Goldsmith. They were married June 29, 1940. A brother, Gene Goldsmith is also deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 9, at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, with Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.
