Marian E. Van Allen, 83, of 136 S. Boston Street, Galion, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Galion Community Hospital, after a six month illness.

Born October 23, 1920 in Ada, she was the daughter of the late Walter Basil and Elsa (Oehler) Basil. On August 18, 1950 she married Henry M. Van Allen and he preceded her in death December of 1956.

She moved to Galion in 1936 when she was a sophomore and graduated from Galion High School in 1938.

She retired in 1983 after 22 years from Galion Community Hospital where she worked in the Medical Records Department. She had previously worked as a receptionist for various Galion physicians. She is a former member of the Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary.

She was born a triplet and is survived by her two remaining triplets with whom she made her home, Maxine E. Basil and Mary E. Schwab. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne Van Allen Houfek and Robert Houfek, of Stockton, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Doris Van Allen, of Galion; four grandchildren, Scott Houfek, serving with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Megan Houfek and Katie Houfek, of Stockton, Calif. and Dennis Van Allen, of Willard; a great-granddaughter, Courtney Van Allen, of Willard and a niece and a nephew in Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her brother Carl Basil.

Marian donated her body to the Ohio State University School of Medicine and at her request there will be no calling hours or services.
