Mary Kathryn Kafer, 89, of 13881 Long Lake Lane, Port Charlotte, FL and formerly of Galion died Friday, February 20, 2004 at Bon Secours - St. Joseph Nursing Center, Port Charlotte, Fla. after a short illness.
Born October 13, 1914 in Shelby, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Hiland L. Melick and Bertha (Lybarger) Melick. On June 5, 1936 she married Virgil F. Kafer who preceded her in death on September 6, 1994.
She was a graduate of Tiro High School in 1932, and a member of Peace Lutheran Church; she previously served on church council and is a member of the Women of Peace. She was a clerk at the former J.C. Penney Company in Galion and a homemaker.
Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law: Carol Ann and Dean Curl, of Port Charlotte, FL. a son and daughter-in-law: Virgil L. and Frances Kafer, of Pasadena, TX., four grandchildren, Dr. Cynthia Curl, of Galena, Ohio, Bradley Curl, of Amlin, Ohio, Kelley Kafer, of Columbus, Christopher Kafer, of South Carolina, a twin sister, Frances Tooker, of Phoenix.
Friends may call from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, with Rev. Karl Ribbeck officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
