John J. Markovsky, 82, of 8431 State Route 61, Galion, died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Village Care Center, Galion, after a lengthy illness.

Born November 28, 1921 in Mineral Ridge, he was the son of the late Demetri Markovsky and Anna (Borsuk) Markovsky. On April 15, 1950 he married Dorothy V. (Moelter) Markovsky and she survives.

He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran; he was a war hero at the Battle of the Bulge and received the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He owned and operated Lakeside Campground in Berlin Center. Prior to that he worked for G & W Distributing Company where he sold televisions and appliances. He liked to work, fish and go camping.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Cal Williams, of Galion; two grandchildren, John Haupt and Carolyn Jones; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 13 step-great- grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Mike and Lillian Markovsky, of Buffalo, Wyo., James Markovsky, of Spring Hill, Fla., Paul and Delores Markovsky, of Austintown and a sister, Louise Miller, of Spring Hill, Fla.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Walter Markovsky and a sister, Stella Cupan.

Friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 27 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday with Rev. Dan Addison officiating. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the Galion area Veterans Organizations.
