Richard P. "Dick" Scherer, 77, of 407 Grove Avenue, Galion, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Village Care Center, after a six month illness.

Born March 27, 1927 in Sandusky, he was the son of the late Paul Scherer and Sylvia (Robinson) Scherer. He married Elizabeth S. "Liz" (Huber) Scherer on June 9, 1961 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1947 and a WWII Navy veteran. He was a member of First United Church of Christ and Galion Elks Lodge #1191. He liked to fish and work around his house. He enjoyed helping his children with their projects. He liked to travel in his camper and enjoyed watching wildlife. He worked at the former North Electric Company in Galion for ten years where he worked in maintenance. He then worked at the former Peabody Galion and retired after 17 years.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike Scherer, of Galion and his fiancé', Carolyn Switzer and James K. and Linda Scherer, of Galion; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Dallas Moyer, of Plain City; six grandchildren, Jason and Matt Scherer, Dallas Moyer, III, Jenel (John) Bentley, Zachary Moyer and Ashton Seiter; five great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Kathryn Miller, of Galion, Virginia Lindenberger, of Norwalk and Pauline and Jim Perry, of Phoenix and a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Shirley Scherer, of Westerville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 1, with Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
