Barbara Jean Ritchey, 72, of 1314 Summit Street, Columbus, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at Village Care Center, Galion, after an extended illness.

Born July 24, 1931 in Galion, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Decker and Dorothy (Auld) Decker.

She graduated from Galion High School in 1949, attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from The Ohio State University.

She has been a researcher and consultant for bio-physical and neurological sciences. She formed an independent consulting firm, the Decker-Ritchey Medical Group in Columbus, which was engaged in bio-physical and neurological medical research.

She traveled to Russia and corroborated with Ohio State University in the translation of medical textbooks from Russian to English. She was currently working on a cross disciplinary publication on Alzheimer’s.

She was the founder and co-owner of Bib-N-Tucker, the first children’s clothing store in Galion and later in Mansfield.

She was the former executive director of the Delaware American Red Cross and a former member of First Presbyterian church in Galion.

She was a first chair clarinetist with the Marion Symphony Orchestra. She previously played in the Galion High School Orchestra and Marching Band. While in high school she was a lifeguard at Heise Park Pool.

She is survived by her former husband, Fred Ritchey, of Galion; three daughters, Lisa Ritchey Varga, of Columbus, Andrea Ritchey, of Galion and Dana Ritchey, of Columbus; two step-daughters, Mary Knarr, of Ind. And Sue Kay Voliva, of Calif.; nine grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Paul E. Cook, of Mansfield and Virginia and John Boggs, of Ashland and three brothers and two sister-in-law, David and Phyllis Decker, of Galion, James and Pat Decker of Ada, Mich. and Michael Decker, of Cleveland..

She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Rockne Ritchey and Christopher Rex Ritchey and a brother, John Richard Decker.

Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.
