Robert F. "Schmitty" Schmidt, 90, of 807 South Boston Street, Galion, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Galion Community Hospital, after a two month illness.
Born July 23, 1913 in Astoria, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frank and Jeanette Schmidt. He was preceded in death on January 12, 1981 by his wife, Juliette C. (Benjamin) Schmidt whom he married in 1948.
He was a graduate of Astoria High School, Astoria, N.Y. and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Galion. He and his wife moved to Galion in 1978 from New York. He was a mechanic and machinist by trade. He owned and operated F and S Body Shop in New York, which he said stood for "Fast and Sloppy". In Galion he worked at the former Martin's Body Shop. He was a self taught piano and accordion player and was member of Galion Golden Age Club.
Surviving is a step-son and spouse, Raymond and Dolores Mahler, of Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y. a step-daughter and spouse, Judy and George Schultheis, of College Point, Queens, N.Y. five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Schmidt.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 18 at Grace Episcopal Church, Galion with Rev. Dr. Emmanuel K. Twesigye officiating. He will be interred with his wife Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, Calif.
