J. Gerald "Jerry" Bonnar, 92, of 9047 Bletchley, North Canton, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at St. Luke Nursing Home, North Canton, where he has been the last ten years.

Born December 1, 1911 in Saybrook, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, he was the son of the late James David Bonnar and Sue (Gerald) Bonnar. He was preceded in death on June 9, 1992 by his wife, Helen M. (Britton) Bonnar whom he married on January 24, 1942.

He was a graduate of Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Engineering Degree.

He was the Chief Engineer at the former North Electric Company where he was Vice-President of Sales. He was a Founding Director of PECO II, Galion and one of the original founders of Buckeye State Bank where he served as Secretary of the Board.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Galion, Theta Chi Fraternity and Galion Historical Society. He served on Galion City Council, Galion Board of Education and Galion Area Betterment Commission.

Surviving is a daughter, Brenda Maurer, of North Canton; two grandsons, Jeffrey James Maurer and Christopher Bonnar Maurer both of North Canton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Douglas and Gladys Bonnar, of Hudson, and also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Bonnar.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Zev W.D. Rosenberg officiating. Interment will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
