Drake Shawn Heckert, 5, of 7944 State Route 96 West, Crestline died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at MedCentral/Shelby Hospital, of injuries sustained after being struck with a truck in front of his home.
Born February 1, 1999 in Galion, he was the son of Melvin Heckert of Delaware, and Leslie Smith of Crestline.
He was a rambunctious five year old that was loved and enjoyed by many. He had an infectious smile and was very friendly, loving and affectionate. He loved John Deere tractors and was a farmer at heart. He liked NASCAR and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. He loved his cat "Blackie".
He attended Wee Care Day Care Pre-school and was looking forward to graduating May 19. He was a member of Tiro United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his little sister Kaylie Heckert, at home, whom he adored and protected and affectionately called, "Kay Kay".
He is also survived by maternal grandparents, Darla Smith, of Galion and John Smith, of Galion; paternal grandparents, LuAnn and Will Fleshman, of Delaware and Melvin and Robin Heckert, of Galion; maternal great-grandparents, Harold and Marilyn Fried, of Crestline; paternal great-grandparents, Jim and Carol Rhodebeck, of Galion and Margaret Heckert, of Bucyrus; aunts and uncles, Joey Heckert, of Galion, Andy Fleshman and Marjie Fleshman, of Delaware and Brian Smith, of Galion; cousins, Noah Smith, of Galion, Steve Burge, of Columbus, Angela and Mark Johnson and family, of Johnstown, Wendy Schiffer, Michael Schiffer and Michelle, Roger and Leah Gundrum, of Shelby, Nikki Fried, of Wooster and Dustin Fried, of Crestline; great aunts and uncles, Alan Fried, of Crestline, Penny Schiffer, of Shelby, Linda and Don Wuestenberg, of Columbus, Linda Brown, of Akron, Don and Laura Smith and family, of Galion and Delbert and Susan Smith, of Galion..
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, with Rev. Andrew Angel officiating. Burial will follow at Oceola Cemetery.
