Gerald F. “Jerry” Cross, 63, of 306 Hensley Avenue, Galion, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at home, after a sudden illness.
Born January 21, 1941 in Galion, he was the son of the late Gerald W. Cross and Ada (Gilmore) Cross.
He graduated from Galion High School in 1959 and North Central Technical College in 1995 with an Associate Degree accounting.
He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended First Presbyterian Church, Galion. He sang in the choirs at both churches. He was assistant manager at St. Joseph Catholic Church Activity Center. He was a member of Knights of Columbus St. Francis Council No. 1234; American Legion Scarbrough Post No. 243 and Elks Lodge No. 1191, where he served as a Trustee. He belonged to Galion Community Theatre, where he acted in some plays. He was past president and the current treasurer with Cooperative Christian Services of Galion. He served as head scorekeeper at PECO II softball fields and is a past President of Galion Little Sox and Little League.
He was an avid golfer, liked to play cards, sing, read and collect plates.
He retired in 1996 after 23 years from ITT/North Electric, where he was a sales representative. He had currently been doing accounting and tax services from his home.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Scott Kempf, of Galion; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Sue Cross, of Crestline; a stepson and spouse, Brad and Karen Schreck, of Galion; a step-daughter and spouse, Susie and Jeff Roy, of Hilliard; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and a sister, Roberta Wold, of Las Vegas.
He was formerly married to Sharron Hatton and Beverly Cross and they survive.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galion, with Rev. Michael Schelling and Rev. Gary Proietti officiating.
An Elk’s Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday and a Vigil Service with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday during calling hours.
