Dr. Clyde W. "Bill" Thompson, 73, of 5000 Ohio 19, Galion, died unexpectedly Friday, July 16, 2004 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital.

Born March 19, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, he was the son of Fred Thompson of Galion and the late N. Mae (Lockhart) Thompson. He is survived by his wife Marie E. (McFadden) Thompson, whom he married May 28, 1955.

He is a long time member of Gospel Baptist Church. Dr. Thompson graduated from Iberia High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Peabody-Galion for two years and graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1955. He opened a chiropractic office in Mt. Gilead where he worked during the day while he worked at the Marion Engineer Depot at night. He worked full time at Ontario/Mansfield General Motors for 31 years while practicing chiropractic part time in Galion. When he retired from General Motors in 1988 he resumed chiropractic full time until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed working and his favorite hobby was beekeeping and honey production. He was an avid gardener and liked hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Dr. Thompson was currently serving as President of the Chiropractic Association of Ohio. He was a member of Galion Lodge 414 F. & A.M.; Naomi Chapter 42 Order of Eastern Star; a 32nd degree member Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus; a member of Galion Shrine Club; Aladdin Temple Shrine, Columbus; Galion Elk's Lodge 1191; Past President of Galion Toastmaster's Club; member of General Motors Retiree Assoc. of the U.A.W.; Richland County Beekeepers Assoc. and Tri-County Beekeepers Assoc.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Denny Sexton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Patrick Aaron Thompson, and Patrick A. & Brandi Thompson, II, all of Galion; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Thompson, Shane Powell, Elizabeth Mullins, Harley Thompson, Brandon Thompson and Lillian Thompson; two great grandchildren, Devon and Dillon Mullins; his father, Fred Thompson, of Galion; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Stan Richards, of New Concord, a brother and sister-in-law, L. T. "Tom" and Judy Thompson, of Centerburg; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Joan McFadden, of Mesa, Ariz., Bob and Ruth McFadden, of Petersburg, Va. and Gary and Susanne Sobie, of Davenport, Iowa and 10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant brother.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Gospel Baptist Church, 5670 Ohio 19, Galion, with Rev. Monty Trammel officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.

Masonic memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday during calling hours.
