Hatten Mullins, Sr., 84, of 616 Harding Way East, Galion, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at home after an extended illness.

Born December 25, 1919 in Haysi, Va., he was the son of the late Arvil and Judy Mullins. He married Sharlene (Atkins) Mullins on May 16, 2001 and she survives.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1941 to 1946. He was a self employed coal miner in Haysi until 1964 when he moved to Galion. He worked at A. M. Castle Metals until his retirement in 1983. During that time he was also the owner/operator of Hap's Custom Welding. He enjoyed country music, history and spending time with and reminiscing with his family and friends.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Hatten, Jr. and Donna Mullins of Ypsilanti, Mich. and Roy Clifford and Karen Mullins of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Dan Rowland of Mt. Gilead; a step-son, Robert Atkins of Galion; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Sally Mullins of Galion and Sidney and Betty Mullins of Bristol, Va.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Leonard "Dock" and Rosbal "Peanut" Mullins and his first wife Wanda (Hamon) Mullins on Feb. 23, 1990. They were married July 27, 1927.

Friends may call at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 where a brief memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Friends may call at Haysi Funeral Home, Haysi, Va. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Mitchell-Senters Cemetery in Haysi.
