John E. Martinez, 84, of 69 Cedargate Court, Galion, died Monday, January 12, 2004 at Rosewood Manor Nursing Center, Galion, after a one month illness.
Born December 8, 1919 in Ybarra, Guanajuato, Mexico, he was the son of the late Bonifacio Martinez and Jesusita (Negrete) Martinez.
He is a life long Galion resident and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #303 and V.F.W. Post #4329 in Galion. He retired from the former Peabody-Galion where he was an assembler.
He is survived by two brothers, Henry Martinez, of Nelsonville and Andrew Martinez, of Holland, Mich.; two sisters, Louise Meza, and Delores Martinez, of Lorain; many nieces and nephews, three step children, Betty Moyer, of Galion, Pat Williams, of Sunbury and David Columbus and his wife Joan, of Wooster.
He was preceded in death by one brother Peter Martinez.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galion, with Rev. Michael Schelling and Rev. Frederick Schill officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Rosary services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday during calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
